There's no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there's nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don't *actually* work.

Enter GLAMOUR Tries: the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

TikTok is the source of pretty much all our inspiration, and has been since it became our full-time MUA of late (although e probably won't be trying peach-skin nails or fabric-bleached hair any time soon).

It showed us the 'lifting' contour effect, taught us how to fake an eye lift and get thick, fluffy lashes, and even convinced us to (almost) try using fake tan as lip liner (no, really).

So, this being the unofficial winter of updos, we were pretty excited when we saw a ponytail hack going viral on TikTok. Enter 'the double ponytail'.

Posted by @beautyhacks, the double ponytail tutorial is so popular it's raked in 6.2 million views and over 500 comments with viewers commenting: "So that's how Ariana does it!" and "Well this is really life-changing!"

So, how do you do it? The double ponytail hack involves securing your hair into two ponytails, one on top of the other. The higher ponytail conceals the top of the second one, where you've secured it with a hair tie, and because the second ponytail is positioned lower down on your head, it gives the illusion of longer hair, while maintaining the higher-up 'snatched' look.

TikTokers advise using a comb to evenly separate your hair into two ponytails, and using it to comb hair back when you're tying to avoid telltale flyaways. You could also use a hair clip to secure the first ponytail when tying the second.

Although the comments prove that the double ponytail hack isn't exactly new – with many saying "I've been doing this for years" and "I know this trick, I also do it" – it's certainly a game-changer for us. But is it at easy as it looks? Our Acting Web Director Ali Pantony put it to the test.

“It looks a little complicated, I'm not going to lie… but this is the final result. It has definitely elevated my ponytail and made it a bit more Ariana-like… but it was really difficult and there's a lot of pulling and tugging and stuff that probably isn't very good for your hair.

"I don't know if it didn't work because my hair isn't as sleek as the girl in the video… but I'm probably not going to go for this one again. Let us know what you think!"
