This is THE black wedding guest dress to wear to every ceremony you've got lined up

If Sofia Richie's guests can, then so can you.

I'm about to dispel a myth: it is appropriate to wear a black wedding guest dress to a ceremony, and its time we start doing it.

One quick google of the celebrities that attended Sofia Richie's wedding will reveal that many of them wore black to her big day in France (and looked incredibly chic while doing so, might I add). While typical summer wedding guest dresses – think: pink wedding guest dresses and green wedding guest dresses – are always appealing, there's just something about black that has me hooked.

Its a colour I know I'll feel confident and sophisticated in, and who doesn't want that when you're trying to set a good impression amongst the bride and groom's friends and family? Plus I know I'm bound to wear it again. With that said, there's one black wedding guest dress in particular that I think is going to sell out this season.

The Desiree dress from Nobody's Child has sat in my wardrobe for a few weeks now, waiting for the perfect occasion for me to don it. But, really, how often does a black tie event swing round? The age-old saying that black is inappropriate or bad luck at a wedding because its traditionally worn at funerals is redundant. If a man can wear a black suit or tux, then I can wear a black frock.

Spun from responsible satin, the open-back silhouette of Desiree is something you truly can't appreciate until you slip into it. Designed to skim your figure – and I'll let you be the judge of how well it performed on me – it trickles down like liquid and finishes with a slightly floaty hem. Depending on how tall you are (I'm 6ft and the model is 5'9", for reference), it hits just above the ankle so you can spotlight your favourite/most comfortable wedding shoes.

Black Halter Neck Desiree Maxi Dress

I styled it with simple gold jewellery from Mejuri and Heavenly London, a low bun, some kitten heels from Russell & Bromley and my best designer bag to let it speak for itself – dresses like this one don't need much help.

Sofia Richie, I await your approval.
