5 hair colours that will headline 2023, from tiger blonde to cinnamon
When it comes to hair colours for winter 2022, it's a tale of extremes. Brunettes are getting darker, blondes are getting icier and spiced tones remain a delicious way to warm up your hair tone while nodding into one of this year's biggest trends: copper hair.
Of course, there's always exceptions to every rule and hair highlighting trends like the luxe cashmere blonde are delivering more natural-looking shades, executed beautifully. Below, we've lined up some of the biggest winter hair colours to have on your radar.

This will really come as no shock since copper shades have been hogging the spotlight for several seasons, but it's going absolutely nowhere. However, new renditions and spin-offs will keep it feeling fresh. “The lighter strawberry red tones, like red velvet and strawberry ginger, will be huge,” insists hair artist and co-founder of the Vanilla Loft salon, Chris Weber Mirlach. Likewise, celebrity colourist, Jenna Perry, is putting her money on cinnamon going stratospheric. “It's the perfect marriage between red, brunette and platinum blonde: high drama and high maintenance,” she says. Or want something more hi-vis? Cherry bomb will be big, says Harriet Muldoon, blonde specialist at Larry King salon.

It's a classic, but with the ‘90s hair trends in full swing, glam supermodel blonde is in. “We’ve seen a massive change in blondes. We’re obsessed with golds,” says Harriet. “Think classy, not brassy, but with a yellow undertone shinning through,” she says, adding, “Barbie is the Queen for this look.” Jenna agrees, citing “supercharged golden blonde,” as one to watch.
And Chris is also on the glossy, sheeny blonde train. “I'm really enjoying the buttery pearl blondes. They're the perfect mix of warm, golden, buttery tones with a mix of pearl highlights. I love playing around with a mix of different shades of blondes,” he adds. “It’s less of a high contrast, it’s more a soft dimension with different blonde shades.” For a cool-girl spin off, beige or dirty blonde will “still be very present,” adds Jenna.

Off the back of the clean girl makeup looks that have been trending, approachable hair shades will be given a luxe glow-up. “We will see more natural, low maintenance and soft dimensional colours,” says Chris. “It’s all about enhancing your natural beauty and choosing colours that truly compliment your look and lifestyle. One colour I think will really be highlighted is ‘elevated, or rich brunette’. After years of focusing on blonding we will see a lot of people choosing darker and richer hair colours with warm tones like hazelnut, strawberry, chestnut and honey. One of my personal favourites is Hailey Bieber. She really shows how to make ‘elevated brunette’ look effortless and chic,” says Chris. Meanwhile, Tracey Cunningham, whose celeb clients include Khloe Kardashian, Zendaya and Zoey Deutch, agrees, “I just love, love, love working with my classics. You simply can’t go wrong.” And Jenna concurs: “rich brunettes will be getting warmer.” To add a little glossy-glam luxe-ness, Harriet recommends brown lights. “It's a soft lifting technique were no bleach is used, but it gives brunettes a shimmer.”

Love the golden blonde and copper tones that are trending? Tiger blonde is a dreamy blend of both. “Tiger blonde is a pastel peach with a punch,” explains Harriet. “I love adding a liquid copper colour on top of a blondie as it’s like adding a blush to the hair. It's so flattering and the shade is definitely going to be big this year,” she adds.
