Maternity loungewear is a God send while pregnant. If we’ve learnt anything from our round-ups of the best maternity clothes, it’s that comfort is key. Forget the rigidity of standard denim: it’s time to switch to magic maternity jeans with stretchy waistbands that hold everything in. Even your favourite pyjamas and jumpsuits - as comfortable as they once were - will be replaced with maternity nightwear and maternity overalls.

For the first trimester, and maybe even the second, your usual, oversized tracksuits and black leggings will probably still suffice. But with an ever-changing body and a million other things on your mind, like finding the perfect changing bag, the last thing you want is to be caught short one morning when you can no longer squeeze yourself into them. There’s only so many times you can re-wear that one pair of maternity leggings you own, so where does that leave you? The joy of maternity loungewear is that it’s two pieces and you’re done, leaving you to ponder the more serious issues of the day such as practising your pelvic floor exercises and drafting baby names. If you need to leave the house then, yes, you’ll probably need to add a winter coat, some fashion trainers and a bag but, honestly, even if you don’t no one will question it. Pregnant women get a pass for everything.
